I would be honoured to earn your support once again as your Ward 9 City Councillor. My pledge to you is to focus on:
1️⃣ Affordability for our Community
Regina can continue to be one of Canada’s most affordable cities through smart planning and building a community where families choose to live, businesses invest, and tourists visit.
Affordability means more than just the taxes we pay for roads and pipes. It also means the value we get for those dollars – amenities that make a vibrant community, strategic planning for the future, and safety in our community.
I believe Regina deserves to have entertainment and recreation options like other growing cities. This provides more things for families and youth to do, as well as generates revenue through tourism and attracting new residents. Big ideas take years to fulfil, so we need to start investing now to phase them in over the next 25 years. Just like maintaining your home, we cannot keep kicking problems and projects down the road – we need to focus on finding solutions today.
2️⃣ Holding City Hall Accountable
Council’s first responsibility is to make sure city government operates efficiently and competently. It should be financially accountable, properly staffed, and a positive, productive organization.
But as you know, issues and failures have emerged, and I’ve pushed to hold the city manager accountable. Unfortunately, I’ve faced roadblocks from many of my fellow councillors. I believe my experience, combined with a new Council, would be beneficial for this accountability. We need less chaos on Council, not more.
I’m also proud of the role I’ve played in bringing more financial transparency to City Hall. I’ve helped save tax dollars by investing in the City’s rainy-day fund, ensuring we don’t break the bank on sudden repairs. I’ll keep advocating on your behalf for smart decision-making that respects your tax dollars and prioritizes community needs.
3️⃣ A Councillor that Works for You
Council decisions should be based on community needs, while keeping in mind affordability for residents as we plan for new growth.
During my time in office, I’ve worked with residents to take many issues forward for resolution. For example, I played a key role in removing the truck route along 9th Avenue North. More recently, I’ve heard residents’ concerns about noise abatement and landscaping as Coopertown is developed. It’s important to be proactive with these concerns instead of simply living with problems or trying to fix the issue after it’s already done.
I believe it’s important to bring your diverse views, ideas and insights to Council. Respect and cooperation are key to resolving issues and building success.
